Overview

This help article will help the reader in the use of the STACK concrete catalog, whether a veteran in the trade or a new employee with no construction experience. The STACK concrete catalog contains assemblies for all sorts of flatwork and foundation structures. Flatwork assemblies do not contain rebar items, so adding an additional rebar assembly may be necessary. Rebar-only assemblies are available that mimic a concrete counterpart. Not only are they good for rebar-only contractors, but also can be added for more complicated rebar configurations.

Terminology

We recognize that different regions use different terms for their trades. This list should help you better understand the choices STACK assemblies offer.

  • Footer, Beam, Stem Wall – As far as STACK assemblies are concerned, these terms are interchangeable. All refer to structures in the foundation with length, width, and depth measured using a Volume 3D or Linear takeoff.

  • Column, Pier – these terms refer to concrete that typically has a larger vertical component, whether into the ground or supporting part of the structure above.

  • Continuous Rebar – This is rebar that runs along the length of the footer or beam

  • Cages, Stirrups – These terms refer to rebar bent into a circle or rectangle or U-shape surrounding and supporting vertical or continuous rebar.

  • Horizontal Rebar - this refers to two different types of rebar, depending on the assembly. In the “Concrete Wall – 3D” assembly it refers to rebar that runs along the length of the wall and spaced evenly going up the wall. In footer and beam assemblies, horizontal rebar sits perpendicular to the continuous rebar with length approximately equal to the width of the footing or beam. This type of rebar is sometimes called transverse rebar or cross-bridging.

  • Bar Lap Count – the number of rebar diameters needed to make up the splice length. This is often confused with the splice length itself. The equation to determine this number is Rebar Diameter X Bar Lap Count = Splice Length. For example, if we have #4 rebar and a 2 foot splice length, our equation is .5 X Bar Lap Count = 24 then Bar Lap Count = 24/.5 = 48.

03 30 00 – Rebar

Corner Rebar

Summary: This assembly is designed for a Count takeoff and can be used for corners, T intersections and X intersections. Currently, rebar is only available by the linear foot in this assembly.

Variables:

  • Number Of Rebar Needed - Enter the number of pieces of rebar needed for each count

  • Length Of Rebar Need In Feet - Enter the length of each piece of rebar

  • Rebar for "L Intersection" Corner - Uses both variables and takeoff total for calculations

Rebar For Beam - Linear

Summary: This assembly is based on a Linear takeoff and yields continuous rebar, rebar stirrups, tie wire and labor

Variables:

  • Stirrup Spacing In - used to calculate stirrup rebar

  • Beam Width In - width of the concrete, used to calculate stirrup rebar

  • Continuous Rebar Count - how many pieces or rebar run along the length of the beam

  • Rebar Waste 1 to 100 - enter a number as a percentage of waste you want added

  • Rebar Stock Length Feet - the length of the rebar you typically order

  • Crew Production Lbs Per Hour - used to calculate labor hours

  • Cont Bar Size - the number of rebar you chose from the item group (3, 4, 5, etc.), used for calculating tie wire

  • Stirrup Bar Size - the number of rebar you chose from the item group (3, 4, 5, etc.), used for calculating tie wire

  • Beam Depth In - depth of the concrete, used to calculate stirrup rebar

Rebar For Column, Round - Count

Summary: This assembly is designed for rebar for round columns, both vertical and cages. You could also use this for round piers that require the same rebar configuration. It is designed for a count takeoff.

Variables:

  • Column Diameter In – Enter the diameter of the column in inches.

  • Column Height In – Enter the height (vertical dimension) of the column in inches, can also be the depth if this is a pier.

  • Vertical Rebar Count – Enter the number of pieces of rebar that run vertically in the column.

  • Rebar Waste 1 to 100 – Enter a percentage waste factor for rebar.

  • Cage Rebar Spacing In – Enter the spacing of cages in inches.

  • Anchors Per Column – The number of anchor bolts required per column.

  • Vert Bar Size – Used to calculate tie wire and rebar labor crew, enter the vertical rebar’s number (3, 4, 5, etc.).

  • Cage Bar Size - Used to calculate tie wire and rebar labor crew, enter the cage rebar’s number (3, 4, 5, etc.).

  • Crew Production Lbs Per Hr – For your rebar placement crew, enter the amount of rebar they can place in pounds.

Rebar For Column, Square - Count (2021)

Summary: This assembly is designed for rebar in rectangular concrete columns as vertical and cage rebar.

Variables:

  • Column Height In – the column’s vertical dimension, whether height or depth, entered in inches

  • Vertical Rebar Count – how many pieces of rebar are placed vertically in the column

  • Rebar Waste 1 To 100 – enter a percentage waste factor for rebar

  • Cage Rebar Spacing In – enter the spacing of your cages as they go up the column in inches

Rebar For Concrete Wall - Linear

Summary: This assembly is designed for a Linear takeoff.

Rebar For Continuous Footer - Linear

Summary: This assembly is designed for a Linear takeoff and may work with any concrete takeoff whose primary dimension is length, e.g. beams, stem walls, footings, thickened edges.

Variables:

  • Footer Width In - width of the concrete, used to figure horizontal/transverse rebar

  • Continuous Rebar Count - how many runs of rebar go along the length of the concrete

  • Horizontal Rebar Spacing In - used to calculate horizontal/transverse rebar

  • Vertical Dowel Spacing In - used to calculate vertical dowels

  • Vertical Dowel Length Ft - total length of each vertical dowel, including hooks, bends, etc.

  • Rebar Waste 1 To 100 - enter a percentage waste factor

Rebar For Pier Footer - Count

Summary: This assembly is designed for a count takeoff. It is to be used for footings that have rebar in a "grid" layout with options for a top and/or bottom layer.

Variables:

  • Footer Width Ft - One horizontal dimension of the footing

  • Footer Height Ft - the other horizontal dimension of the footing

  • Rebar Count - how many pieces of rebar go one way, this assumes both ways have the same count, so if they are different, an average count should suffice

  • Top Bar Size - the number of the rebar chosen

  • Bot Bar Size - the number of the rebar chosen

  • Crew Production Lbs Per Hr - the productivity of the labor crew chosen

Required Items:

  • 16 Gauge Tie Wire - based on the number(s) of your rebar chosen in variables and the footing dimensions

These groups contain a selection of items that must be chosen if required

  • Rebar Each Way @ Bottom - Choose rebar by the foot or by the pound, calculated using the footing dimensions and rebar count

Rebar For Slab - Area

Summary: This is based on an Area-type takeoff and may be used for any concrete flatwork.

Variables:

Concrete Column/Pier Footer - Count

Summary: This assembly is designed for a Count takeoff and works for rectangular concrete structures. Rebar will be one or two mats in a grid pattern.

Variables:

  • Footer Width Ft - One of the horizontal dimensions of the column/pier

  • Footer Height Ft - The other horizontal dimension

  • Footer Depth In - the vertical dimension of the column/pier

  • Concrete Waste 1 To 100 - enter a percentage waste factor for the concrete

  • Rebar Count - how many pieces of rebar go "one way"

  • Anchor Bolts Per Column - necessary if using anchor bolts

  • Excavate Production Cy Per Hr - productivity rate of the excavation crew you choose

  • Place Production Cy Per Hr - productivity rate of the concrete crew you choose

  • Depth To Top Of Footer In - if excavating and the top of your footing is below ground level, this is the distance from the top of the footing to ground level, used to calculate total dirt excavated

  • Top Bar Size - the number (size) of rebar on the top mat

  • Bot Bar Size - the number (size) of rebar on the bottom mat

  • Crew Production Lbs Per Hr - productivity rate of the rebar crew you choose

Required Items:

  • Foundation, Square Feet - total square footage viewed from the top

  • Footer Count - takeoff count total

Concrete Column, Round – Count

Summary: This assembly is designed for round columns requiring sonotube forms with vertical and cage rebar. You could also use this for round piers that require the same rebar configuration, not selecting a form item. It is designed for a count takeoff.

Variables:

  • Column Diameter In – Enter the diameter of the column in inches.

  • Column Height In – Enter the height (vertical dimension) of the column in inches, can also be the depth if this is a pier.

Summary: This assembly requires a Volume 3D takeoff. It is designed for concrete structures with length as the primary dimension with continuous rebar and stirrups.
